Like most things in life, change is bound to happen β and is *usually* for the better. In the past few years, we’ve seen a rise in short-form video content. With that change, engagement rates for feed posts (static or carousel) have declined nearly 50% since 2019 (Reels were introduced in 2020). But does that mean that static posts are dead? Not necessarily…
We’re big fans of strategic rule-breaking and believe in empowering our clients to color outside the lines with their strategy and content. Sometimes that might go against what other social media “experts” are saying.
Despite what the gurus might be telling you, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, has gone on the record numerous times stating that, while Instagram will continue to find new ways to focus on the rise of video content, photos are not dead β or necessarily prioritized “less” by the algorithm.
So what does this mean in terms of your content strategy? We’re glad you asked!
A good strategy should be well-rounded and focus on your unique goals, so there is not a one-size-fits-all answer here. But we do have some insights β and no, they don’t include *just* posting reels π
With our clients, we’ve noticed that certain types of content work best for certain types of goals.
Looking to increase your reach? Reels can be a great way to do that. (But again, not the only way).
Want to boost your engagement? Posting a carousel could be helpful (plus, IG will show a different slide each time a user sees it in their feed).
Or maybe you’d like to further develop that know, like, factor with your followers in order to get more conversions. Showing your face on stories or posting a personal or behind-the-scenes photo can be a good way to “pull back the curtain” and give people a glimpse of the “real” you.
So while we may be seeing a decrease in engagement rates for the older types of content (we’re talking about you, feed posts), that doesn’t mean they’re dead. In fact, they’re still useful to your overall strategy and customer journey.
