Every December, the online space seems to become flooded with goal-setting frameworks, productivity hacks, and “5 things every entrepreneur needs to do before January 1.”

And while I think goal-setting is important… most of that advice is built on a masculine, hustle-driven model. It’s about cramming in more — more goals, more metrics, more routines.

For female business owners, though, success isn’t found in doing more. It’s found in creating space.

But before you can build a spacious business, you have to dig deep to uncover (and unlearn) the conditioning you’ve been handed about what “success” is supposed to look like.

Is success really just about revenue milestones, follower counts, being “busy,” or whatever else you’ve been told it is?

Success is what you decide it is. And until you define that for yourself, no strategy or system will feel fulfilling.

Spacious success means building goals and systems that allow you to breathe, pivot, and create…not just grind your way through the quarter.

What Spacious Success Really Means

Spacious success isn’t lazy or about throwing strategy out the window.

It’s about designing success that feels sustainable. Success that honors both structure and flow.

• Masculine energy (structure): systems, strategies, deadlines, accountability.
• Feminine energy (flow): intuition, creativity, rest, and rhythms.

When you balance the two — and when your definition of success actually feels true to you — you create a business that supports you instead of suffocating you. That’s what spacious success looks like.

The Mistakes We Make in Q1 Prep

If you’ve ever ended January already exhausted, you’re not alone. Here are the patterns I see most often:

• Overloading with too many goals. The longer the list, the less likely you’ll follow through.
• Copying someone else’s strategy. What worked for them won’t necessarily work for you.
• Skipping reflection. Jumping straight into “what’s next?” without asking “what’s working?” or “what’s draining me?”
• Defaulting to autopilot. Checking boxes instead of being intentional.

These mistakes don’t just make Q1 overwhelming, they keep you from creating the spacious kind of success you actually want.

A New Approach to Q1 Prep

So what does a feminine approach to quarterly planning look like?

It starts with reflection and redefining success:

• What does success mean to me right now?
• What do I want my business to give me (ie: time, freedom, impact, income, joy)?
• Where have I been chasing someone else’s definition of success?

Then, bring balance:

• Energy + strategy. Align your intentions with what actually fuels you, not just what you “should” be doing.
• Content with white space. Personally, my quarterly prep is content-focused: I plan blog posts, newsletters, Pinterest, and map out social media, leaving space for creativity to flow later.
• Vision + structure. Dream about where you’re going, but back it up with systems that support you along the way.

It’s not either/or. It’s both/and.

Practices to Make Q1 Feel Spacious

Here are a few simple ways to build more spaciousness into your prep:

• Block CEO Days. Step out of client work and into your big-picture vision.
• Create space for energy check-ins. Journal, pray/meditate, and pause to notice what your body is telling you.
• Map your quarter with breathing room. Don’t schedule every inch of your calendar! Leave white space for creativity.
• Choose 1–3 big goals. Focus creates momentum. Sprawl creates stress.
• Audit your systems + workflows. A well-oiled backend is what creates true space (this is exactly what we tackle in my Vision-to-Execution Accelerator).

Q1 prep doesn’t have to feel rigid or overwhelming.
